When school becomes not so cool

Honestly, I enjoy school.

I do complain about it a lot but behind all that complaining is a genuine love for school. I didn’t understand how much I enjoy it until I was out of it for four months last year ! (It was rough..)
Even though I enjoy school it can be super overwhelming sometimes.
Grades 11 & 12 have been tough. There are tons of assignments, projects, ISUs, tests, questions, discussions to be done. There’s the pressure of knowing that universities are watching. The pressure to get all the requirements, to make the honor roll, to not just pass but to go above and beyond. That’s why it’s tough.
Last week I had at least five assigments due in each one of my three courses and I was no where ready to hand them in, needless to say, I was overwhelmed. That’s when I started talking to my friend Alyssa.
~Let me take a minute to brag about my friend Alyssa. This girl is, in a word (or two), pure awesomeness. She is real, she is caring, she is kind, she is hilarious, she is loving, she is beautiful, she has a heart of gold. I can always trust her to be there for me , literally I text her any time of the day & she answers. She has been one of my biggest supporters and she inspires me to seek God more. (okay brag over)~
So Alyssa & I started talking and we came to the conclusion that we don’t need to feel over whelmed.
We don’t need to worry about school.
“Wait.. Of course you do ! It’s important!!” Yes school is important & just because we’re not worrying about school or becoming overwhelmed by it does not mean we don’t take it seriously and we don’t work hard, we do. We’ve just decided it doesn’t need to consume our lives, why?
Jesus tells us not to worry & in the scheme of eternity, it doesn’t matter.
 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life ? {Matthew 6:27}

Jesus tells us not to worry because there is no point in worrying ! Don’t sweat the small stuff! God has a plan and that plan will happen whether school goes well or not, it’s in God’s control not ours. This doesn’t mean that we don’t work hard at school, we still want to honor God by doing our best, this just means that it doesn’t consume us & become the only thing that occupies our time.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. {2 Corinthians 4:18}
We need the have a heaven focused mind set, there’s no point in wasting our lives stressing out over things that are going to pass away , we need to be focusing on the things of eternity because, well they’re going to last forever & everything we do in this short life is going to effect how that eternity pans out!
So, when you’re feeling overwhelmed by school (and I’m sure many of us do from time to time) just focus your eyes on Christ, do your best & don’t sweat the small stuff.
happy Sunday ! xo
